AIS has collaborated with Google to support the Family Link application, allowing family members to stay connected. Parents can closely monitor their children’s internet usage and devices, fostering a safe and creative digital environment for the family.

Getting Started

Download and install the Google Family Link application.

Create a Google account for your child (if they don’t have one already): During the setup process of Family Link, you can create a Google account for your child.

Connect the account: Follow the steps in the application to link your Google account with your child’s account.

Set up controls: After linking the accounts, you can configure various controls as suggested in the application.

The child’s device must be Android.

The child should go to "Settings" > "Google" > "Children & Family" > "Parental Controls" and follow the steps.

Parents need to enter their Google account and password on the child’s device to link the devices.

Parents should activate the child’s account in Family Link through the "Manage Family" menu.

You can enable location tracking from your child’s mobile device:

  1. Enable Location Services: Go to Settings > Location and ensure that Location Services are turned on.
  2. Allow Family Link to Access Location: Go to Settings > Location and allow Family Link to access the device’s location.

Supported devices for the application:

  1. For Parents (Master): Both Android and iOS devices can be used with the Google Family Link app.
  2. For Children (Member): An Android device is required, as real-time location tracking works with Android’s Google Play services.

The "Website Filtering" feature in Google Family Link is still available and can be configured in the Google Family Link app on the parent’s device:

  1. Open the Google Family Link app on your device.
  2. Select your child’s profile for configuration.
  3. Tap "Manage Settings":
  4. Select "Google Chrome."
  5. Choose the desired filter level (three levels available: Allow all sites, Try to block mature sites, or Allow only approved sites).

Internet usage time can be managed in two main ways through Google Family Link:

  • Screen time limits: This restricts the total device usage time, not just internet usage. It includes gaming, watching videos, and using other apps.
    Steps:
    - Open the Family Link app on your device.
    - Select your child’s profile.
    - Tap "Controls."
    - Select "Daily limit" and choose the days and times to limit usage.
    - Save the settings.
  • App timers: This restricts usage time for specific apps, such as social media or games.
    Steps:
    - Open the Family Link app on your device.
    - Select your child’s profile.
    - Tap "Controls."
    - Scroll down to "App limit."
    - Select the app you want to limit.
    - Tap "Set time" and choose the desired time limit.

In addition to setting time limits, Family Link can also block inappropriate apps. Simply select the app you wish to block and tap "Block."

The Google Family Link app allows flexibility in account connections within a family, supporting up to 6 accounts. The roles can be designated as either parent or child, with a maximum of 1 parent account controlling up to 5 child accounts.

Using Google Family Link is not restricted to AIS network numbers. Both parent (Master) and child (Member) accounts can use phone numbers from any network provider.

Parents can edit and manage their child’s account details as follows:

  1. Open the Google Family Link app on your device.
  2. Select the child’s profile for configuration.
  3. Go to "Account settings" and click "Account info" to edit the child’s Gmail account details.
  4. Go to "Account settings" and click "Sign-in control," then select "Yes, ask me every time" to ensure permission is required for sign-ins on non-controlled devices such as iPads, iPhones, browsers, and other platforms.
  5. Go to "Account settings" and click "Third-party app control," then select "Yes, ask me every time" to receive notifications when your child signs into third-party apps or services.
